Ultimately, my work represents a process of honoring feelings and exploring themes found in psychology (such as individuation, archetypes, and healing) and in Buddhism (such as oneness, awareness, and stored-consciousness). I create a personal language of meaning and metaphor from the poetics of the way ink bleeds, steel bends, and wood connects. I am drawn to using materials “as they are” allowing exploration to be immediate, present, and imperfect. Discoveries emerge from the act of making with my hands while observing both my mind and body. Eventually the pieces take on qualities resonant with an emotion or idea achieved through a flow state. Even when my work moves from abstract to referential, it reflects an ongoing relationship with feelings and materials over time.

In my most recent work with folded paper, I delight in the surprise of shadows from patterned folds. Within a single piece, I work with color, form, and shape. Each folded piece holds “open space” and calms my mind. They each reflect the vast, benevolent, loving, humble space of meditation. Silhouettes, archetypal symbols, and shapes reflect unique encounters connecting spiritual moments with the material world.

Each body of work (on this website) is a gateway to a new perspective; a way to see the everyday in a new way; an invitation to connect spirit, intuition, and material; and a way to unite the body, senses, and somatic experience toward a “next move”. They reclaim a bond with the arts as a transformative force - and are an offering to the viewer to trust their intuition and discover new opportunities.
